Dean Olson

GIS Analyst, Assistant Planner

Dean is a GIS Analyst and Assistant Planner at The Urban Collaborative. He manages, creates, and maintains our spatial data, as well as designs cartographic products. His major interests in the field are network analysis, spatial statistics, and effective cartographic visualization. Before joining the UC, Dean worked in aerial survey and photogrammetry, processing orthophotography mosaics, creating terrain models, and editing topographic datasets. From 2007 to 2012, Dean was an enlisted Satellite Imagery Analyst in the US Navy where he served onboard USS Makin Island (LHD 8) through sea trials, qualifications, and its first operational deployment.

He received his master degree in Geography from University of Oregon and his bachelor degree in Geography and GIS from UCLA. In his free time, Dean likes to spend time outdoors by hiking, camping, fishing, and mushroom foraging in the forests around Eugene. He also enjoys board games, trivia and reading books.
