Building Systems Engineer

Mr. Nepps resides in Germany and has worked with Urban Collaborative since 2019 as a Building Systems Engineer. In this capacity, he specifies HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for project buildings so that cost can be accurately captured. He also examines existing utility networks to determine how they will be impacted by future development. In addition to systems and utilities, he examines pre and post-development stormwater runoff and recommends measures to comply with Low Impact Design (LID) requirements. Mr. Nepps earned his bachelor’s degree at Temple University in Mechanical Engineering, and his master’s degree at San Jose State University in Civil Engineering. Before working with UC, he had 30 years of mechanical & civil engineering experience working on projects ranging from heavy highway construction to commercial/retail buildings and mid- & high-rise residential development. He has been a LEED AP since 2009 and has assisted with certifying several commercial building projects in the U.S. and Europe. In 2018 he became a LEED Green Rater and has worked extensively since with the LEED Homes/ Residential rating system helping certify residential dwellings in Europe including the first LEED for Homes certified projects in Germany, Romania, and Ireland. His knowledge of mechanical and civil engineering and his sustainability experience working with the LEED rating systems give him a unique perspective leading to creative planning and design approaches.
