One of the primary goals of the West Fort Hood plan is to provide expansion capability within the extensive constraints of the district. In addition to improving circulation and providing green space, the plan creates a “Main Street”, Headquarters Avenue, with mixed-use development. There is a significant increase in barracks throughout the district, in addition to family housing, focusing on walkability. One of the most important results is that it removes existing buildings in the clear zone. The plan also provides for an increase in hangar and warehouse space, expansion of Operational Training Command and Arrival/Departure Aircraft Control Group, and an expansion to Killeen Regional Airport.
